Image

The boys gave their best,” said a sober Oliseh after the game. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation also expressed regrets over the Super Eagles shock exit. Pinnick and Oliseh NFF president, Amaju Pinnick reiterated that the African Nations Championship is “both developmental and preparatory for bigger challenges,” and said without mincing words that the Federation would now shift focus to the qualification race for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. “We apologise to Nigerians for the poor outing of the S...

Enyeama lied, I never insulted his mother - Oliseh

Image
Vincent Enyeama ditched the Super Eagles in Belgium; calling time on his international career, but not without some controversy. He alleged the head coach Sunday Oliseh insulted his late mother, had security throw him out of the camp and stripped him. In an exclusive interview with www.footballlive.ng Sunday Oliseh debunked the claims insisting the 33-year-old defamed. The full excerpt of the interview: I am deeply saddened, troubled and profoundly hurt by the assassination of my person as Vincent Enyeama has done over the past two days on social about me insulting his mother, these allegations are unheard of. Enyeama When I was appointed the chief coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, I drove to Lille to see Vincent, took him to lunch and discussed how we wanted to move forward with him as my captain. I shared my philosophy with him and he made a statement I didn’t like, he said he was going to retire in a year or two and I told him I wouldn’t hear of it as he was the ...

We won't beg Enyeama to return to Super Eagles - NFF

Image
Spokesperson of the Nigeria Football Federation Ademola Olajire says the football governing body has no plans to persuade goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to return the Super Eagles. Olajire was quoted by NAN yesterday as saying; "We heard about his quitting the national team on his Instagram page. If somebody says he is retiring from the national team, what are we going to do, to beg him? We don’t know if he is leaving the national team because of his quarrel with the coach. He just wrote on his Intagram page that he was leaving the national team. So, why should we be finding out whether he left because of the rift? The player has gone out of the camp, what do you want us to do. He has left the camp and he did not tell anybody that he was leaving." he said

I am "The Normal One", Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool coach

Image
New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp described himself as “The Normal One” as he faced the media for the first time following his appointment as successor to Brendan Rodgers. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho famous described himself as “a special one” in his first press conference in English football in 2004, earning him the nickname ‘The Special One’. But Klopp, 48, told a packed room of journalists at Anfield: “I don’t want to describe myself. I’m a totally normal guy. I’m the Normal One.” “I am a normal guy from the Black Forest. I don’t compare myself with genius managers in this club’s history,”added Klopp, who led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final appearance. “It’s cool that you’re looking for that, but it’s not my part to think about that. I don’t think any manager starts by saying that they want to be a legend. I was a very, very aver...

Braking News: Lionel Messi to stand trial for tax fraud in Spain

Image
Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi and his father Jorge are to stand trial on three counts of tax fraud that could carry prison sentences, a Spanish court confirmed on Thursday. In a court filing, the judge in charge of the case rejected a request by the public prosecutor to try only the footballer’s father. Lionel Messi The pair were accused in 2013 of defrauding the taxman out of 4.16 million euros ($4.69 million) in taxes related to Messi‘s image rights between 2007 and 2009 through the creation of fake companies in Belize and Uruguay. It is alleged they ceded the player’s image rights to the companies in order to avoid declaring money made from lucrative deals with sponsors in Spain. No date has been set for the trial, which will take place in Vilanova i la Geltru, the town where the player lives 50 kilometres (30 miles) south of Barcelona. Prosecutors had asked for the case again...

Congratulations to Messi as he welcomes a new baby

Argentine football star Lionel Messi has added two-time dad to his long list of honors, after his girlfriend gave birth to a son, relatives announced. Mateo Messi was born Friday in Barcelona, the athlete’s brother wrote on Twitter. “Mateo has just been born, he is beautiful,” Matias Messi wrote. “We’re savoring this moment of happiness.” Messi, 28, and longtime companion Antonella Roccuzzo are already parents to a toddler son, Thiago, who turns three later this year. Considered among his sport’s most prodigious talents, Messi last month was voted UEFA’s best player in Europe for 2014-2015. Barca gain revenge in Bilbao thanks toSuarez stunner

Image
Barcelona exacted revenge for their Spanish Super Cup defeat to Athletic Bilbao to get off to a winning start in La Liga thanks to Luis Suarez’s solitary second-half strike. Lionel Messi’s troubles from the penalty spot continued as he saw a first- half spot-kick saved by Gorka Iraizoz. However, his strike partner ensured that miss didn’t prove costly as Suarez volleyed home early in the second-half to hand the champions all three points. Luis Enrique’s men were returning to the ground where they were thrashed 4-0 in the first leg of the Super Cup just nine days ago and were without the suspended Gerard ButlerPique, whilst Neymar wasn’t fit to take part after just returning to training following a bout of the mumps. Athletic were also missing a number of first-team regulars, though, and struggled to match their high-energy performances in the two Super Cup matches after also playing in the Europa League on Thursday. After a quiet start...

How Pedro gave 10-man Chelsea lift-off at West Brom

Image
Pedro Rodriguez scored on his debut as Chelsea survived captain John Terry’s dismissal to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 on Sunday and claim their first win of the season. Home side West Brom, who left out star striker Saido Berahino following a failed bid from Tottenham Hotspur, scored twice through James Morrison, who also had a penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois. But Jose Mourinho’s visitors held on for victory after Pedro had opened the scoring and had a hand in Chelsea‘s second, scored by Diego Costa to make it 2-0. Cesar Azpilicueta scored a rare goal to give Chelsea a 3-1 half-time lead after Morrison had reduced the arrears. And Terry, who was substituted at half-time against Manchester City last weekend, lasted just 54 minutes before he was dismissed for a professional foul on Salomon Rondon. Morrison then headed in his second goal to set up a tense finish, but Chelsea held on. Costa fired the game’s first real chance wide for Chelsea ...

Man United: We won’t sell De Gea, says van Gaal

Louis van Gaal claims unsettled Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will not be sold to Real Madrid before the transfer window closes. De Gea will once again be left out of the match-day squad when United take on Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday because Van Gaal feels the Spaniard is still not properly focused. According to reports in Spain, Real will make one last attempt to sign De Gea, whose contract expires next year, before the window shuts on September 1. But after a week in which United’s reputation took a blow following Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez’s decision to snub United in favour of a move to Chelsea, van Gaal came out fighting at his pre-match press conference on Friday. The Dutchman insists the lure of United remains as strong as their desire to hold on to two-time player of the year De Gea. “I think when Manchester United wants a player he shall come, besides when a club is not selling,” van Gaal said. “It is ...
