Image
APC Youths in Kwara state have rejected the ministerial nomination of Lai Mohammed as the minister representing Kwara state. The youths under the aegis Coalition Groups of All Progressives Congress, APC presented a petition letter to the state party chairman, Ishola Balogun Fulani at the party secretariat, accusing Lai Mohammed of not working towards the success of the party in the state during the last election but concentrated his energy in Lagos state. They say it will be unfair to other party members in the state who are well deserving and worked for the success of the party in the state. Spokesperson of the group, Prince Adetoyese Omokanye said "His permanent voter’s card(PVC) was registered and collected in Lagos and all his contributions for the emergence of APC at the federal level are through lagos. I have no interest in Amaechi's appointment -Gov Wike say

Image
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has insisted that he doesn't care if his predecessor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi is appointed as a minister or not. The reason he made this statement was because of the claims by the All Progressives Congress that he was orchestrating a protest against Amaechi’s likely appointment as a minister. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, in Port Harcourt, on Monday, the governor described the claim that he was working against Amaechi’s likely appointment as ridiculous. He said: “It is not only spurious, but fatuous and malicious. Governor Wike has no cause to orchestrate a protest against the appointment of Rotimi Amaechi. “Let me reiterate for the umpteenth time that the governor has no nexus with the appointment of Amaechi or otherwise. It is the right of the President to appoint anybody of his choice provided such an appointment is in sync with the relevant laws. ...

Im Senate against the wishes of some powerful individuals - Saraki

Image
Senate president Bukola Saraki insist he is being tried at the Code of Conduct Tribunal because he emerged senate president against the wishes of some powerful individuals. He said this while addressing members of the senate at their resumed session today September 29th. "Distinguished Senators, I believe you have all followed with keen interest, my trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. I shall avoid discussing the details of that case here for obvious reasons. But let me say it again, that I am ready and will submit myself to the entire judicial process as provided by law.  Meanwhile, I wish to reiterate my remarks before the Tribunal, that I have no iota of doubt that I am on trial today because I am the president of the Nigerian Senate, against the wishes of some powerful individuals outside this Chambers. But what is clear to me also, is that the laws of Nigeria, and the rules of the National Assembly give consideration only to the wishes and desires of those of you who ar...

Ministerial List yet to get to the Senate

Image
The much awaited ministerial list is yet to arrive the Senate. Senate President Bukola Saraki in his address this morning said the Senate is still waiting for the list  "As we await the list of ministerial nominees this week, I believe the presence of ministers will create the space for greater policy engagement with the Executive Arm of government and enable us to begin to respond in a more systematic manner to the various economic and social challenges before us, especially through our various Committees that will also be constituted soon.  On this note, I want to urge you all my colleagues to ensure that what is uppermost in our minds as we begin the constitutional task of screening of ministerial nominees is the overall interest of our country, informed by the enormity and the urgency of the challenges before us. Once the list is submitted, let us ensure that we treat it with dispatch. We must not be held down by unnecessary politicking. The enormity of our national cha...

Jonathan doesn’t have money - Alamieyeseigha

Image
I n his days as the governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, otherwise known as DSP, was fondly referred to as the Governor-General of Izon Nation, because he presided over the only state with entirely Ijaw extraction and was seen as the leader of the struggle for the proverbial Resource Control in the Niger Delta. But his popularity and political career was cut short when he was impeached towards the end of December 2005 and replaced by his then Deputy Governor, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who later became Nigeria’s President following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2010. DSP landed in prison and he was in a sordid state until his godson, Jonathan granted him state pardon, lifting him out of the political doldrums. Today, Alamieyeseigha still respected in Bayelsa, speaks on Jonathan, Obasanjo , Governor Seriake and Bayelsa State. Excerpts: Let’s start by asking what informed your choice of former President Jonathan as you...

Pay attention to the economy, PDP tells Buhari, APC

ABUJA – NATIONAL leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has again taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress, APC and President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the economy has remained on rapid fall since the last four months. The All Progressives Congress (APC) reacting described the PDP’s rambling statement on the nation’s economy as part of the opposition’s ploy to distract the Buhari Administration from its onerous task of putting the nation on a sound footing. The PDP in a statement Monday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh,  the nation’s economy has remained so because of what the PDP described as absence of clear-cut fiscal policy direction and an economic team to deal with the domestic and global challenges associated with a developing economy. According to PDP,  the President Mohammadu Buhari-led APC administration should pay urgent attention to the management of the nation’s economy, addi...

Campaign against Amaechi will deny Rivers its deserved elevation – Nwuche

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche has called on politicians in Rivers State to eschew the negative culture of bitterness, blackmail and chicanery in their desperate bid to witch-hunt and to stop Rivers sons and daughters from being elevated to higher national duties. In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, the former presiding officer in the National Assembly lamented the recurring situation where deserving Rivers sons and daughters are often willfully blackmailed and maligned by unscrupulous politicians in the State in a bid to prevent their elevation at the federal level, and consequently lose the state’s slots for important national appointments to other states in the South-south region. Hon. Nwuche revealed that he has been a victim of this odious practice by some misguided persons, including a former Governor of Rivers State, on account of his principles, forthrightness and outspokenness, and regretted that...

Sokoto – Dr Jabbi Kilgori, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto, on Sunday said the first 100 days of the Buhari administration had succeeded in restoring the country’s corporate existence. Kilgori in Sokoto said that President Muhammadu Buhari has restored the unity of the nation. He said that the administration had succeeded in removing fear in the minds of Nigerians against possible breakup of the successfully federated nation. “Many Nigerians before the general election were seen in hundreds migrating to their states of origin for the fear of the nation’s break up,” he said. APC-led FG will not micromanage judiciary – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the PDP to stop denigrating the judiciary by suggesting that Tribunal judges handling the various election petitions can be influenced, saying the APC-led Federal Government will not micromanage the judiciary. In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP is throwing wild allegations against the Tribunals in Rivers and other states because the party knows it stole the votes in those states. ”The affected states are the cashcows of the PDP, hence the party is so jittery about losing the states, which they know they did not win in the first instance. ”We have confidence in the ability of the Tribunals to carry out their duties diligently and without fear or favour. We implore the PDP to be charitable enough to repose the same confidence in the Tribunals,” it said

Stop shielding Fayemi from EFCC, Ekiti PDP tells APC

Image
Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the All Progressives Party, APC, in the state to stop what it described as the shielding of former governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi from being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged financial recklessness. The party, in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr Jackson Adebayo also accused Fayemi of distracting the commission’s investigation  through his recent utterances in the media. This came as the APC described the allegation against Fayemi as a pack of lies, noting that the state governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose misrepresented the latter’s  view. The PDP said: ‘’ Why is he coming out almost a year after he was voted out of government by the Ekiti people, when he knows well that some security agencies are after him if not because he want to mislead and coerce them to believe that he was prudent. ‘’We still insist ...

Afenifere condemns Buhari’s style of governance

Image
Akure—AFENIFERE, a socio-political group weekend condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of administration saying he is behaving like a dictator. The group’s Chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti said this in Akure while assessing the President’s actions so far. “President Buhari is running a one-man show. Let him appoint his cabinet and start serious business,’’ he said. Fasoranti also added that it will be a disaster if the report of the National Confab organised by the immediate past administration is dumped by the president. According to him; ”I think the President should sit down and have a package. What people are saying is very correct that he is just picking people here and there. “He seems not to have settled down to governance yet and time is flying. “Let him constitute the cabinet and start working. As it is now, Buhari is still behaving like a military dictator. Just picking on people, he should sit do...

My prison experience, by Sule Lamido

Immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Dr. Sule Lamido, has said that those who masterminded his recent incarceration wanted to humiliate and crush him. Sule, who spoke exclusively to Sunday Vanguard in Kano, said that his travails over alleged money-related crime had rather emboldened than break his spirit and resolve to be involved in the Nigerian project. According to him, though the main goal of his traducers was to humiliate, destroy and crush him, he had decided to forge ahead in the strong belief that a leader must pass through good and tough times in the course of service. He, however, admitted that the joy of leaving office and settling down with his family was temporarily shattered by the trauma of seeing himself and his two sons in prison. Asked what he told his two sons in prison, Sule said he made them to realize that he was a governor and that there would be people who might not be happy with him and would be going after them. Lamido said: “I tol...
