Yola – The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency ( ADSEMA), on Friday confirmed that a six- year-old boy was killed, while 116 communities had been completely submerged by flood wrecking many parts of the state. Mr Haruna Furo, the Executive Secretary of the agency, said in Yola that two-thirds of the state was under threat of flood. Furo said that 12 local government areas, out of the 21 in the state, were ravaged by the flood. According to the secretary, the volume of water released from Kiri dam in Guyuk , Magar dam in Madagali and Lagdo dam from Cameroun Republic, has made rivers across the state to overflow and submerge villages and towns. He listed the worst affected areas to include Shelleng, Guyuk, Numan, Demsa and Lamurde local government areas. A Jos Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Abubakar Mohammed, to one month imprisonment for impersonating as a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Magistrate, Mr Tijanni Zololo handed down the sentence after Mohammed pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court for leniency. Zololo, however, gave the convict an option of N100, 000 fine. He said that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts. The convict in his plea, attributed his action to the work of the devil, “I don’t know what came over me; it was the devil that made me do it. “I wanted to belong, and to be at the same level with my peers that was why I did it, have mercy on me,’’ he said. Mohammed who resides in Mubana Mujaye, Sokoto State, was charged with impersonation and forgery. Earlier, the police prosecutor, Cpl. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the PDP to stop denigrating the judiciary by suggesting that Tribunal judges handling the various election petitions can be influenced, saying the APC-led Federal Government will not micromanage the judiciary. In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP is throwing wild allegations against the Tribunals in Rivers and other states because the party knows it stole the votes in those states. ”The affected states are the cashcows of the PDP, hence the party is so jittery about losing the states, which they know they did not win in the first instance. ”We have confidence in the ability of the Tribunals to carry out their duties diligently and without fear or favour. We implore the PDP to be charitable enough to repose the same confidence in the Tribunals,” it said

A serving Sergeant with the Bauchi State Police Command, Godwin Hosea, has been promoted to the rank of an Inspector by the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, for sewing a bullet-proof jacket. Decorating the newly promoted Inspector at the Police Headquarters in Bauchi, yesterday, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Mohammed, commended him for displaying exceptional talent. In a statement by the state Police command, spokesperson, DSP Haruna Mohammed, the police commissioner was quoted to have said, “On July 22, 2015, during a one day official working visit to the Bauchi State Police Command by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, one F/No 218346 Sgt Godwin Hosea presented a fabricated bullet-proof jacket he manufactured locally to the IGP during a lecture parade at the Bauchi Police Command State Headquarters. “As a result, a visibly happy IGP instantly promoted the Sgt to the rank of Inspector with effect from July 22, 2015.”

Prof Uade Ugbomoiko, a Zoologist at the University of Ilorin, has cautioned people to beware of contacting pubic lice through sexual intercourse. Ugbomoiko gave the advice in an interview with pressmen on Tuesday in Ilorin. He explained that contagious parasite such as Amoebae, Trichomonas, Giardia, Scabies and Pubic lice were parasites contacted through sexual process. “Pubic lice are parasitic insects found primarily in the public or genital area of human beings and this pubic lice is found worldwide and occurs in all races, ethnic groups, and all levels of the society,” he said. According to him, these lice resemble miniature crabs that feed on human blood and can occasionally be found in the coarse body hair, such as hair on the legs, armpit, moustache, beards, eyebrows or eyelashes.
