FG grants financial autonomy to joint venture

The Federal Government, Wednesday, granted financial autonomy to some Joint Venture (JV) oil companies, giving the JVs control over their budget, empowering them to source for funds and remit taxes, royalties and dividends to the government. Reports obtained from Reuters revealed that the decision of the Federal Government in this regard was contained in a letter by Emmanuel Kachikwu, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, signed by President Muhammadu Buhari. NNPC did not respond to a request for comment but several oil sources confirmed the authenticity of the letter. The letter states that this plan will apply to five oil blocks sold by Shell in 2011-2012 to local companies, Shoreline Natural Resources Nigeria Limited, First Hydrocarbon Nigeria Limited, ND-Western Limited, Elcrest Exploration &Production Nigeria Limited and Neconde Energy Limited. SAD: 14-months-old baby and mother killed in a Bank Robbery Incident

The gun battle between a group of policemen and some armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13, 2015 turned deadly as a woman and her 14-month-old baby were hit by the robbers’ stray bullets and died. The Trent had reported that over 20 heavily armed bandits attacked Diamond and Access banks on 4th Avenue in Festac Town, Lagos State in a one-hour operation that has left a tragic trail of blood. The woman, identified as Mrs. Jane Ndirieka and her baby were hit in their house by stray bullets from the robbers shooting spree. The victim’s neighbours who spoke with our correspondent at their 4th Avenue flat say that Mrs. Ndirieka was shot twice, one in the chest and in other the right shoulder while she carried her baby. Her baby died on the spot while she was rushed to the hospital. Man arrested for allegedly having s*x with a minor

Police in Binh Duong Province in southern Vietnam on Tuesday, October 6, arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian man suspected of having s*x with a minor. Investigation found Ewuzie Emeka Emmanuel asked a 15yr old Vietnamese girl in his neighborhood to come into his room on October 3rd. He flirted with her and asked for her phone number. He texted her later that day, asking her to come to his room, where he had s*x with her, investigators said. After the girl came home, her mother found out and reported the case to the police. Emmanuel came to Vietnam in 2008 and is working for a company in the neighboring Ho Chi Minh City. Under Vietnam’s Penal Code, one can be sentenced to 15 years in jail for having s*x with one between 13 and 16 years old. The sentence can be longer if the action causes pregnancy or significant health damage.
