URHOBO youths, under the aegis of Coalition of
Urhobo Youths Organization, CUYO has urged the
incoming administration of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari
(rtd) to dissolve the governing council of the Federal
University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun,
FUPRE, Delta State over its alleged disregard for
due process in the institution.
CUYO, in a statement by its Chairman, Comrade
Mudiaga Abiri said it has slated June 3, 2015 for a
protest to the Federal Ministry of Education, against
the governing council’s alleged utter disregard for due
process in the recent employment of staff into the
institution.
Lamenting the gross insensitivity of the council to the
plight of the Urhobo people, the statement alleged that
“none of the eminently qualified Urhobo candidates was
short-listed for interview for the position of Vice
Chancellor, Registrar and Bursar, thereby robbing the
people of the area of their right to be among the
management staff of the institution.”
Alleging that about 40 percent of the staff employed in
the institution are ghost workers, the statement said
“they are already gainfully employed in Bayelsa and
Edo States before they were employed here to be
getting double salaries.”
The statement stressed the need for the appointment of
principal officers of the university made in May, 2015
to be declared null and void, saying, “the positions
should be widely advertised and all those qualified
short-listed and interviewed before final appointment
into those positions.”
