Kano boys college closed over alleged sodomy

Following the outrage caused by the alleged rape of some males students of Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo private boarding School, Kano, by unknown men who invaded their school, (readhere) the state govt has reportedly closed down the college. 

Acting Governor of the state, Professor Hafiz Abubakar directed that the college be sealed immediately for proper investigation while a 14 member committee has been set up to investigate the rape allegations and turn in their report within two weeks.

The police in Kano, who were initially accused of preventing investigation, have launched a full blown criminal inquest to unravel the mystery surrounding the sexual assault. One of the victim is now receiving treatment at Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital.

Four killed in Burundi gun attack

At least four people were killed on Friday when gunmen ambushed the Burundian army’s chief of staff in a failed assassination attempt. According to a morgue source, three soldiers and three gunmen were killed in the early morning attack in the capital Bujumbura. The source said that an army pick-up brought four bodies to the morgue. However, the main target Gen. Prime Niyongabo survived the attack. Niyongabo is the highest-ranking official to be targeted in a series of attacks on officials since April when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he was seeking a third term. Nkurunziza’s relection bid continue to raise tension as the opposition says it will violate the constitution and a peace deal that ended an ethnically charged civil war in 2005. Timipre Cousin Kidnapped In Bayelsa By Unknown Gunmen

Gunmen believed to be kidnappers this afternoon kidnapped Krinpere Douglas, a cousin to Timipre Sylva, the APC Governorship candidate for Bayelsa governorship election. According to Nathan Egba, the Director for Media and Publicity of Sylva’s campaign who made this known to newsmen, Douglas was kidnapped along the Ogbia-Brass waterways this afternoon as he was heading to a political rally in support of his cousin, Mr. Sylva. ''The victim was coming for this campaign but, unfortunately, their boat which was in our convoy was attacked by the gunmen who abducted him to an unknown destination. I pray that nothing will happen to him ,'' he said
