Ministry of Healthsays patient in Calabar was not killed by Ebola

The Ministry of Health has discredited reports of another case of Ebola in Calabar Cross Rivers, affirming that Nigeria is Ebola free. There was an Ebola scare in Nigeria yesterday October 8th after a man died of hemorrhagic fever seven hours after he was admitted on Wednesday October 7th, making the doctors suspect it could be a new case of Ebola and immediately quarantined 10 people including nurses who treated the dead patient and every other person who had contact with him.

At a press conference in Calabar this afternoon, the permanent secretary of the ministry of Health, Linus Awute said test carried out on the dead patient's specimen, tested negative to Ebola and Lassa fever.


“After the tests, it is very clear it has nothing to do with Ebola or Lassa fever. Results confirmed that the deceased was negative of Ebola virus and Lassa fever. The ministry of health states that Nigeria remains Ebola free.” he said

Man set ablaze for stealing a woman pot of soup

CALABAR—A mob in Calabar, Cross River State capital, yesterday, butchered a young man and set the remains on fire beside Atu Secondary School fence along Goldie Street, for allegedly robbing a woman of a pot of soup. His two accomplices escaped. The hoodlum, in the company of two others, were alleged to have attacked the woman at Mayne Avenue Extension in Calabar South. They were allegedly attracted by the aroma of the soup the woman was warming for her family’s breakfast before heading for early morning mass at nearby St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. A young man, who lives in the same premises with the lady, said as the robbers were about to get out of the compound with the pot of soup, the woman raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to go after them. At least six gun wielding suspected kidnappers have reportedly abducted a septuagenarian inlaw of the business mogul and the Olugbo of Ugbo, in Ondo state Oba Fredrick Akinruntan . Madan Omogbene Adeborile was reportedly abducted at her Igbotako resident by the kidnappers who came in a Toyota car and shot sporadically into the air to scare the people. They were able to escape with the old woman following the confusion that occurred after the shooting took place in the town.
