Sad News: Nursing mother crushed to death at ughelli

IT was mourning and gnashing of teeth at the Kogbodi roundabout along Isoko Road, Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, yesterday,  following the death of a nursing mother in her 30s who was crushed to death by a speeding SUV.

The victim, it was gathered, had a female baby strapped to her back and was pushing a cart filled with detergent and other groceries on display for sale when the vehicle rammed into her from behind, slamming her into the barricade of the roundabout.

As at 12:30pm when Vanguard visited the scene of the accident, sympathizers were seen carrying the mangled remains of the victim away from the accident spot, while her baby who sustained minor injuries, was receiving attention by the side of the road from sympathizers.

“The victim was pushing a cart towards the roundabout from the Post Office road axis when the vehicle coming from the same side, in what seems like break failure, rammed into her,’’ the witness said.

Man set ablaze for stealing a woman pot of soup

CALABAR—A mob in Calabar, Cross River State capital, yesterday, butchered a young man and set the remains on fire beside Atu Secondary School fence along Goldie Street, for allegedly robbing a woman of a pot of soup. His two accomplices escaped. The hoodlum, in the company of two others, were alleged to have attacked the woman at Mayne Avenue Extension in Calabar South. They were allegedly attracted by the aroma of the soup the woman was warming for her family’s breakfast before heading for early morning mass at nearby St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. A young man, who lives in the same premises with the lady, said as the robbers were about to get out of the compound with the pot of soup, the woman raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to go after them. Septuagenarian inlaw of Oba Akinruntan kidnapped in Ondo

At least six gun wielding suspected kidnappers have reportedly abducted a septuagenarian inlaw of the business mogul and the Olugbo of Ugbo, in Ondo state Oba Fredrick Akinruntan . Madan Omogbene Adeborile was reportedly abducted at her Igbotako resident by the kidnappers who came in a Toyota car and shot sporadically into the air to scare the people. They were able to escape with the old woman following the confusion that occurred after the shooting took place in the town.
